Safety Engineer - Fire
Job Summary
The Safety Engineer – Fire position provides engineering support on fire protection and safety systems to ensure compliance with corporate and regulatory requirements. The engineer will evaluate, develop engineering designs, and perform maintenance of the refinery’s fixed and mobile equipment and infrastructure. Additionally, the engineer will provide counsel on technical matter related to all engineered safety systems and will serve as mentor to associate level engineers.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in fire protection engineering,
- Refinery or petrochemical experience preferred
- Knowledge of OSHA/ANSI/API/NFPA safety standards
- Strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving abilities
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Valid driver's license
- Eligibility Requirements: The Maritime Transportation Security Act requires all persons who will need unescorted access to a regulated facility to have a valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC), issued in accordance with the rules established by the United States Coast Guard and the Transportation Security Administration. Candidates selected for employment must meet eligibility criteria to obtain a TWIC card. Job Duties
- Conduct engineering review of capital projects in areas of fire protection and engineered safety systems to ensure compliance with regulatory programs (OSHA/ANSI/API/NFPA)
- Perform fire and safety engineering studies on buildings, structures, and equipment within the complex and propose safeguards
- Monitor operating condition of fire protection system, including firewater, deluge, pressure, and pump operations to assure dependable operations
- Conduct risk assessments for refinery hazards and make recommendations for mitigation
- Review and track preventative maintenance programs for the safety and firewater systems
- Develop and maintain proficiency in fire engineering tools and regulatory requirements for building construction and fire safety
